Castiglion Fiorentino is a picturesque village rising on a sloped hillside. The guided tour of Castiglion Fiorentino with Cortona Tourist Guide runs through the historic centre, within the imposing city walls built in the 13th century, which still preserves a part of its original medieval layout.

While walking along its lovely narrow streets we will visit Piazza del Municipio, having a Renaissance design with the so-called Logge del Vasari opening up onto the Valdichiana valley and offering a breath-taking view of the landscape. We will then reach the museum complex of the Cassero, an old castle built in the 11th-12th centuries with an imposing tower made of shaped stone from where we can enjoy an astounding view of the underlying valley.

The guided tour of Castiglion Fiorentino will continue with the Church of San Francesco, which dates back to the second half of the 13th century, and with the Collegiata di San Giuliano, a Neoclassical religious building that has been recently renovated and hosts many important works of art such as the beautiful Virgin Enthroned with Saints painted by artist Bartolomeo della Gatta.

It is also possible to add upon request a visit of the town museums: the Archaeological Museum with significant Etruscan objects that were locally found, the interesting Art Gallery of Castiglion Fiorentino and the Museum of the Pieve di San Giuliano.

Difficulty:

Medium, with some uphill stretches.
