Lucignano is a lovely medieval village situated on a hill towering above the Valdichiana valley. The main feature of Lucignano is its unique elliptic shape thanks to which it is deemed as one of the best preserved and most interesting examples of medieval town layout. A folklore event called Maggiolata takes place on the last two Sundays of May in the town center with costume balls and parades of floats that are decorated with thousands of flowers.

The guided tour of Lucignano held by a qualified professional tourist guide begins from the gate named Porta San Giusto towards the old Cassero, a towered castle built right next to the city walls. Through a scenic elliptic staircase we can get to the old church named Collegiata di San Michele Arcangelo, which is rich in extremely valuable works of art.

The guided tour will then continue with a visit of the Town Museum (Museo Civico), where important medieval and Renaissance works of art ore on display together with the well-renowned Reliquary of the Golden Tree, commonly known as the Tree of Life or the Tree of Love, a precious and sophisticated object of medieval art of gold.

Then we will visit the nearby Gothic Church of San Francesco, which is decorated with frescoes from the 14th century, and the nearby little Church of Santissima Annunziata also called Church of Misericordia, which preserves two beautiful terracotta statues attributed to the workshop of Andrea Della Robbia.
