The guided tour of Casentino by Cortona Tourist Guide will lead you to Poppi, a lovely little village that deserves a visit. This real jewel nestled in the Casentino area is associated with the Earls Guidi family, whose famous Castle, strategically situated on a hilltop, towers above the valley.

The guided tour of Poppi with Cortona Tourist Guide begins with the visit of the castle, which has been enlarged in the second half of the 13th century according to the project made by architect Lapo di Cambio.

The castle, characterised by a tall crenelated tower, is surrounded by a wide moat. After crossing the drawbridge, you can enter and visit the whole castle. Its internal courtyard is finely decorated with coats of arms and is as interesting as the beautiful Ball Room, the Conti Guidi Chapel embellished with a cycle of frescoes dating back to the 14th century and the museum where we can get information about the famous Battle of Campaldinoa, which took place on a plain near the castle.

The guided tour of Poppi continues in the picturesque old town, where we cannot miss a visit to the imposing Church of San Fedele built in the 12th century to admire the amazing works of art it preserves. We will take a pleasant walk along this little village to explore its streets lined with lovely buildings with covered walkways and its scenic viewpoints over the Casentino valley.
